'Enjoy never using it again': Callous neighbors make it impossible for senior dog to enjoy her last day on earth, grieving dog dad dishes out $15k to ruin their backyard

We don't need to go into how hard it is to say goodbye to a beloved pet. It's one of the most heartbreaking experiences any pet owner will have to go through. So if there is anything a pet owner can do to make that day a little less the worst day ever, then you better believe they will do that. Only the coldest of hearts would make that kind of day worse for anyone. 

Unfortunately, those types of callous coldhearted people exist in the world—Recently, a guy who goes by u/valdev on Reddit shared his story about dealing with horrid people just like this. His sweet senior pittie was suffering from cancer and he and his partner had to make the very difficult decision to put her down. I cannot put into words how hard this kind of decision is to make. They decided for her last day they were going to give her the best day of her life doing everything she loves to do in their backyard. 

OP was setting up a little tent filled wit doggy treats and all her favorite toys when he noticed the neighbors starting a fire to burn some yard scraps. So he told them the situation and asked if they could possibly postpone the burning. They said it was just a little bit and they would be done quickly. He said okay and patiently waited. The poor pup was already having troubling breathing, so hanging out in the smoke was not an option. 

However, after hours, it was still burning, so he asked for and ETA and they just said soon. After several more hours he saw the neighbor now just adding logs to make the fire bigger. OP was more heartbroken than mad at this point because he wasn't able to give his sweet furbaby the best last day before crossing the rainbow bridge. 

But that sadness quickly turned to anger, so he thought if they couldn't scrounge up the decency to not have a fire so his suffering pup could have one last happy day, then they didn't deserve a fire pit at all. So, instead of pouting, he dished out $15k for a privacy fence right then and there. Now that there was a fence separating the yards, the neighbors are unable to have a fire in their backyard due to the law saying it would be too close to the fence and creating a fire hazard. 

You get what you dish out, jerks.

    Font - A couple months ago our lovely older pitbull was fighting cancer, and we had the painful decision made to have her put down. She was low on energy at this point, moving was difficult, and getting her to eat was getting near impossible.

    Font - With that, one of the only things we wanted to give her was one last day outside in the backyard. So, the day. before she was to be put to sleep, in the early morning I set out to setup a tent in our backyard, and filled it inside and outside with things our dog absolutely loved.

    Font - I noticed as I was setting things up, the neighbor behind us was placing sticks and leaves in their fire pit. Which normally, I wouldn't care at all, but the poor dog is having trouble breathing at this point. I figured it wouldn't be an imposition to let them know my current situation and asked if they could postpone the burning just for today.

    Font - The wife let me know that they are just going to be burning a few things to clear their yard and it wont last very long at all, and she gave me some level of understanding about the dog. With that she lit up the fire and the smoke billowed into my backyard.

    Font - For some context, the neighbor is directly behind. my property, I have about a 100 ft x 100 ft backyard and theirs is about 50ft length x 100ft wide.

    Font - ... A few hours go by, I notice they are still outside adding more things to the fire. I approach and ask them kindly on an ETA, trying to be as patient and understanding as possible. They say they are almost done.

    Font - A few hours later there is a raging fire outside and I can visibly see the husband outside pointing at my home, yelling, and then adding actual campfire logs (no longer leaves and sticks).

    Font - At this moment I am now pissed off and start looking into state laws, city laws and everything in between. From this I find out that my city has an ordinance that clearly states a fire pit cannot be within 50 ft of a structure.

    Font - I could if I wanted to contact the city and have it stopped simply because no matter where they place it in their backyard it will be within 50 ft of their home. But, that seems non permanent enough.

    Font - I was already considering getting a fence installed and already had multiple quotes. It was hard to swallow a bill for $15,000. But within 24 hours of this situation guess what I paid for?

    Font - The fence will be installed within the next couple weeks around the edge of my property, and their fire pit is no further away than 10 ft from my fence. ... Can't take a single day away from your fire pit for a dying dog? Well, enjoy never using it ever again.

    Font - Take pictures of your fence the day installation is finished. So when it does damage your fence, you can make them pay for repairs. Then, just remember to report them every time they light it up.
